I like how the guitar fades into the ocean, it is not overpowering any of the picture even though it is right in the middle. I also like how the sunset is still coming through the hand, it worked out nicely because the hand is translucent and not bold. I like how the hands at the bottom correspond with the guitar and the fish at the top can correspond to the ocean, therefore making this whole photo tie in with each other. Also with the hands at the bottom I like how it seems as if they are jumping out of the water and they were not just put there.
It might have been nice to have a few more hands in the water, or something else at the bottom of the picture. The top of the picture is busy with all of the fish, but at the bottom its not as busy, to me it kind of throws me off.
David- I really like how the guitar is in the center of everything. I think that he likes fishing because you see fish and the ocean being depicted. The colors of the ocean and the guitar blend good with each other. It is interesting how he had the hands coming out of the sea. I like how he left the sun and the ship in the image so it shows depth and value. The textures in the waves are nice.
I think that he should have maybe had the fishes jumping out of the water, rather than laying on top of the guitar as a layer. There is a random looking object under the guitar and beside the hand that doesn’t seem to fit. I am not sure if the key image should be in there, you can not really see what it is unless you look up close, and still you can see it. Maybe he was trying to state that these images he has in his composition are the “key” elements of him?
I think this image is very clever. The ocean and the fish together make a statement right at the beginning. I also like the story of hands in general and here they add a kind of emotion to the image. The bottom hands tell a story that can be interpreted freely and seem to almost refer to a fisherman working away or a family member that would cook the fish? Maybe? The hands playing guitar give the essence of music and with the small boat in the background, create almost a moving scene. The one thing that I would work on is the transition of fish to water. There is a very strong seperation of color values in the middle that doesn’t transition smoothly. This would be ok in a harsher image but since the overall feel of the image seems to be tranquil and serene, a softer transition would be more comfortable. I would possilbly add a warming photo filter to the fish or add a little more blue to the bottom of the image to tie it all together.
This is a nice image using color to define composition. I like the split of the image using the horizon of the sunset and the water because it help give an evenly balance. The position of the objects in the picture also help give it a good composition. How you position the water at the bottom and the fish at the top and going from dark to light at the center really drawn the viewer to see that as it get toward the center, it get more and more personal because there's more thing related to you more and more stuff going on toward the center.
I like the object that you choose to display your self portrait because it seem like they are personal, and related to you. Looking at it not knowing the person, you can find some of the interest that the artist have or being motivate by. The images of the person holding guitar and the one at the bottom toward the water, I'm not sure how it's related to the background, but at the same time it also play well with the whole concept because it is a self portrait.
One thing that maybe you can work on is blending the image into the background. There are some white spot that show through some of the object in the picture, perhaps it's area that wasn't clearly erase or being cover up. Other then that, I think you did a great job positioning your objects to create the image as one piece.
This one is quite different for me, it seems masculine but sensitive. The fishes and guitar are more masculine but at the same time the idea of the music playing and the fade out to the background with ocean gives off a romantic feel.
I like the lines created with each image first the fishes then the guitar and the ocean, it is also more intriguing to me to see the boat in the background and not just emptiness. The contrast of the fishes having a near to neutral color compliments the guitar image and the delicate color of the ocean. The only issue I have really is the fishes looking so heavy on top of the picture maybe if it was blended in more it would give a lighter mood to the image.
