The composition of this piece is strongest by the lightning used. The contrast of the light from the top of the piece to the darkness surrounding that particular area is very well thought-out. I like the great use of the light also playing of the green area to the right of the composition; it gives it a stronger contrast and greater value. I particularly like the way that the shadows along the ground behind the guard polls are used and created; it brings depth to the piece, which enhances the overall composition.
The texture is also very well throughout and used throughout the piece. From the green on the side of the composition to the blue used on the polls, it is very unique and abstract. However the blending and edges of these objects is slightly rough and choppy. Perhaps if more consideration is given to the edges of these parts of the piece is given that it may improve the quality of each object that is layered with texture.
The imagery used in the composition is also very strong and dynamic in creating a very abstract and unique composition. The imagery used on the right of the composition creates the illusion of buildings along the sidewalk. It has an organic and mystical feel to it, as if walking into a dream. The composition is strong, and the texture used is good, but a little more attention could be given to blending, masking, and integrating each aspect of the piece to make one cohesive composition.
Hillary- This image has a lot of different textures to it. I like how she made the leaves appear as if it was a wall, like some sort of glass wall with leaves imprinted on it. The shadowing of the blue objects are good, they give it depth. The image when look at from a distance looks good. The can lid top gives the background a nice texture. There is good depth present in the image, with the blue poles being larger in dimension then the leaf green building.
Although when you look at the image from up close you can see minor touch ups that can be done (like more erasing around the blue pools). I feel like the light that is trying to be a “street light” appears more like it is floating, I think it should be connected somehow. Also, just to get rid of the pixilation if possible.
This is a nice image that combines patterns into real objects. The choice of the two pops of color against a mostly gray background works very well. The patterns on the blue street poles are very nice and although they are very different from the rest of the image, they also work with the grays nicely. The composition is nice because the angles of the walkway going into the distance cause the eye to travel into the picture. I also really like the background of pop-tops. I didn’t see it on the print but I see it here and it’s a really nice subtle touch to the entire image. Also, the way the lights reflect on the greenery and the overhead light casts shadows on the walkway is a nice touch. The thing that I would possibly change is the brightness of the walkway and background. Since the colored objects are so bright, the walkway seems faded in comparison. I think a little more red-brown from the bricks would be a nice pop of color and the pop-tops in the back would be really beautiful if they were a little more noticeable.
Hillary I really like the setting you use for your image and the objects that you added in. It give a good composition because it give the viewers a pathway leading the eyes toward one direction. I like the colors you incorporate in the image, but I don't think it was necessary. Maybe you can try having the image with colors all around, or black and white only throughout.
Another interesting thing is the texture. Looking afar you can't really tell what is going on in the background but as you zoom closer, you get to see the small detail in the image. I also like that fence like shadow you put in there. It make the viewer feel like they're standing behind some kind of bar looking out into the city. I also like the design on the blue pole. It look like it's melting.
I like that you put a light bulb there at the top center, but it seem like it's just flowing in space. Also some of the editing on the edge of some object seem like it wasn't smoothly done, I wasn't sure if it was intentionally done like that or not, but perhaps cleaning it up a bit would help.
The scenery is very nice. I like the contrast between the light hitting the posts on the side walk and the shadows it casts and also the midnight look of the sky.
The texture wrapped around the post is colorful and gives the piece a certain interest. The pavement is very realistic and gives off an idea as a path to be walked, it makes me curious enough to want to walk that path but eerie enough for me to be cautious. The green trees in the right of the background compliment the blue in the texture of the post, especially because those two things are the main two objects that stand out with color in the image. The only thing I would say is to be careful of how you cast the shadows when doing a piece like this, it seems a little off when it gets to the posts and its connection to the left of the background.
