Esul Sin - Project 1

  1. The composition is defined mostly by contrast. The contrast between the low light given off by the bottom photo and the adjacent photos within the image is very strong and establishes a good balance for the overall composition. The strong change in light to dark is repeated several times throughout the piece is accomplished well by the merging of the lower lighten area and then the sudden and drastic alteration to the dark area on the far right side of the composition.

Many images were used in the piece that comes together to create an overall landscape. The transition from the snow into the water is very strong and creates an illusion of melting snow. However the addition of the pathway in the middle of the composition does not seem to help in the overall landscape being set up. The light and the contrast in blur in the photos around the pathway really throw off the viewer and unbalance the middle of the composition. Perhaps if less light was used, or the image was dulled down partially it would enhance the overall image.

The image of the dog is also confusing and maybe too much emphasis. The boldness of the dog and the amount of light used, greatly contrast the rest of the piece. Like the pathway if the dog was dulled down or the area around the dog was lightened so that the difference between the two spaces was less noticeable then perhaps it would seem more apart of the overall image. However the lighting used to shadow and build depth to the dog is very good and brings in the audience to more depth within the piece.

  2. I really love how the walkway leads to like a warm sunny place out of the dark cold snow. The way it looks so dark in the main picture works because then it draws your eye the that warm walkway. The walkway looks like there is actually supposed to be one there, so you did a great job on putting that in and making it look so real. The shadow under the dog was executed very well, so it gives it the look as if he is really there.

The dog seems a little to big compared to the tree, I dont know if thats what you were going for, but because the picture looks so real maybe the dog should be smaller. I cant tell if the dog is supposed to be laying in the snow or walking, but you cant really see its legs.

Overall I really like this picture, I think you did a very good job with this!

  3. Esul-

The overall composition is a really good. I like how the image present the different seasons. The textures are good. The snowflakes give the image a feeling of you being present. The pathway leading into the sun is nice how it somehow shows you that summer is coming along. It somehow seems like a journey that the dog is going on being captured. The shadows and value are good in the image too. It has very good details in the background. Balanced out composition. The grass in the snow complements the snow near the fence. Also, I like how even though this composition seems like a picture, she made it appear like it couldn't have been taken on a camera, but rather created.

The image is a little dark; I think it should have been brightened. Maybe should could have added snowflakes onto the dog, to make it seem like he was playing in it. I think that the wooden fence in the middle of the image up-close should have been removed it brings a distraction, because it is so bright. I do not think that is the may focus of the image.

  4. I thought this was so whimsical and adorable and don't always particularly care for dogs. The ranges of highlights to the shadows are really nice and the images such as the tree in the background adds character to the scene.

I noticed the snow flakes that are closer did get blurry which is quite realistic. The only thing I would say is it looks alot like a postcard and as if it was a picture already taken as if it didn't need photoshop.

  5. Esul, I really like the composition of your image. I think you display it well, positioning the objects where they are. Though there are snow scattering throughout the image, I like it that you place the image of the pathway there because as it fade to the right it got really dark. And also the snow at the bottom, the way it seem like it is melting away makes it look like there's footprints there indicating that people have been there and when through the pathway which is really neat that just by looking at the image, you can create a story out of it.

I also like that you have your dog in the image. It show what type of person you are or what's your interest and that it personal to you which bring the concept of self portrait across the image. The way you leave the background image in that dark setting, give you a feels of silenceness.

One thing that I wasn't really sure of is the dog. There were shadow under the dog, but I didn't see the legs so I wasn't sure if that was intentional or not. Also some of the area around the dog, I like it that it have this glow around it, but at the same time, it look a little blurry. Maybe if you clean it up a little around the edge of the dog to lessen some of that glow, it would make it look a little more clear. Also the shift from the background to the pathway could use a little contrast at the top of the pathway to give it a clean blend because of the way it shift from light to dark, it's look too bold almost as if it was a cutout. Overall, I really like the scenery. I thought it have this nice calm peaceful look to it.
